Thelda Nowland Grunig, age 88, passed away December 9, 2013 at Bear Lake Memorial Hospital following a short illness. She was surrounded by family. Thelda was born June 11, 1925 at home in Dingle, Idaho to Charles Ezra Nowland and Vilate (Violet) Allen Nowland. She was the second of four children. She attended grade school in Dingle from 1st to 8th grade and then attended Montpelier High School. She played the clarinet in the high school band and was first chair. She was also very skilled at playing a double row harmonica.

She met the love of her life Robert (Bob) Lorain Grunig when she was a junior in High School. They dated for two years before they were married on March 12, 1944. They were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Logan temple, May 28, 1956. Bob and Thelda were blessed with 3 children: Barbara Ann, Rodger Lynn, and Steven Robert.

After the children were born she traveled to Pocatello to attend beauty school. She worked at several beauty shops in Montpelier and later managed one until her retirement.

Bob and Thelda enjoyed spending time with family and friends on many camping, hunting, and fishing trips. They taught their children to love the outdoors.

After retirement they spent winters in Arizona and Nevada with family and friends.

Thelda was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints and held many callings in which she served with all her heart.

Thelda was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, a sister, her son Steven and a great granddaughter, ChyAnn Leonard.

She is survived by her sweetheart, Bob, of 69 years of Montpelier Idaho. Daughter Barbara (Deverl) King of Montpelier. Son Roger (Sandi) of Montpelier and daughter in law Donna (Deloy) Passey of Paris, Idaho. 13 grandchildren, lots of great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held December 12, 2013 at the Montpelier 3rd ward chapel. A viewing will be held from 10:00 am to 11:45 am and the funeral will begin at 12:00 pm. Interment will be in the Montpelier cemetery.
