Gladys Hayes Nevins passed from this world on August 4, 2013 at the age of 92. A brief graveside service will be held at Dry Creek Cemetery on Wednesday August 7, 2013 at 2:00 pm. Arrangements are under the direction of Cloverdale Funeral Home.
Gladys was born April 28, 1921 in Georgetown, Idaho. She was the second of four daughters born to Frank and Hannah Smart Hayes. Gladys was raised on a farm and participated in the daily chores. She graduated from high school in 1938 and went on to attend nursing school at the University of Idaho southern branch graduating with a nursing degree in 1944. While working in the Pocatello hospital she met John J. (Jack) Nevins. They married April 27, 1947. Jack and Gladys had three children, John Michael, James Terry and Sally Ann.
Gladys worked many years at the Bannock Memorial Hospital in Pocatello, Idaho. After moving to Boise, Idaho, in 1965, she worked for Restful Manor nursing home and finally for the Idaho department of Health and Welfare as a home health nurse. She retired in 1981.
Reading, crocheting, gardening and cooking were one of the many skills Gladys mastered and enjoyed. But, her greatest pleasure was time spent with her grandchildren.
Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, John J. (Jack) Nevins, father and mother, Frank and Hannah Hayes, her sisters and their husbands, Madge and Eldon Sorenson, Jean and Duane Johnson, and Ann and Gene Bills.
She is survived by a son, John and Faye, and their daughters Jane and Jill, a son Terry and Dianyun and their daughters Chen Ning and Hannah, daughter Sally and her children Mike, Mark and Sara.
The family would like to acknowledge the love and attention that Gladys received at Valley View Assisted Living and from First Choice Hospice.
