Ruby Gladys Petereit Gortcinsky peacefully passed away in her sleep in the arms of her granddaughter, Cyndia, May 16, 2013 at Caring Hearts Assisted Living in Pocatello, Idaho. Ruby was born July 6, 1915 in Montpelier, Idaho to Otto and Emma Petereit, the sixth of eleven children. She was the first of the children born in the family homestead home. Ruby was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Ruby married Alfred William Gortcinsky on January 9, 1933 and they made their home in Montpelier, Idaho. Ruby was widowed in December 1954. She worked at Matthew’s Mortuary for over 50 years, retiring at the age of 89.

She enjoyed handwork, especially knitting and crocheting, with many of her afghans and handmade baby dresses winning awards at County and State fairs. Ruby’s pride and joy was her family. She enjoyed traveling with them and spent every Christmas with her granddaughters; the tradition continued with her great grandchildren.

Ruby is survived by her granddaughters Cyndia (Gary) Glorfield of Boise, Idaho and Jan Gortcinsky Valdes of Las Vegas, Nevada; daughter-in-law Kay Gortcinsky of Idaho Falls, Idaho; sisters Ruth Porter, Salt Lake City, Utah and Norma Grandy, Bountiful, Utah; eight greatgrandchildren Nathan, Ashlie, Chase, Andrea, Kelton, Spencer, Jordyn and Whitney, and six great-great grandchildren; Madison, Damien, Sawyer, Tucker, Kenlie, and William.

Ruby was preceded in death by her husband Alfred, son, Ronald William, her parents; brothers George, Earl, Fritz, Bill, and Ham; sisters Clara, Pearl, and Lois.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 211, 2013 at 12 noon at Matthews Mortuary in Montpelier, Idaho. Interment will follow at the Montpelier Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home.
