Dr. Arthur Lowell Jones, age 74, of Orem, Utah, passed away on August 17, 2003, at home surrounded by his family. Arthur was born in Montpelier, Idaho, on October 3, 1928, to Delbert Arthur Jones and Vola Theresa Miner. After graduation from Montpelier High School, he attended USU in Logan from 1946-48, then transferred to Iowa State University. He served in the Army from 1951 to 1953. He was a 1st Lieutenant in chargeÊ of an engineering group building bunkers in front of the front lines in the Korean War.

He attended the University of Minnesota for a short time and then was called to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Hawaii from 1954 to 1956.

He married Darlene Miles from Afton, Wyoming, on August 27, 1957, in the Salt Lake Temple. They lived in St. Paul, Minnesota, while Art was attending the University of Minnesota. He transferred to Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, where he completed his Masters and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering and Chemical Engineering. He also taught as an Assistant Professor while he was there. Then they moved to Pullman, Washington, where he taught at Washington State University.

The family moved to Pleasant Grove, Utah, in 1975. Art worked at the Utah State Building Board as the State Energy Conservation Engineer until 1982. He ran his own business, United Solar Systems, from 1982 to 1983, then moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho, where he worked as an engineer at the INEL. He retired in 1975 and moved the family to Orem, Utah.

Art has served in many callings in the Church including Counselor in a Bishopric, District President, and was an outstanding teacher.

Art and Darlene were called to serve a mission and were assigned to work at the MTC to teach and help the missionaries. While serving there, on October 9, 1999, Art had a stroke which left him unable to walk or speak.

Arthur is survived by his wife, five sons and three daughters: Mark and Cindy (Jones) Wyckoff of Cedar Hills, Utah; David A. and Debbie Jones of Nampa, Idaho; Randy K. and Amy Jones of Lindon, Utah; Kay and Melanie (Jones) Johnson of Lehi, Utah; Tim D. Jones of Boise, Idaho; Jef L. and Shirlyn Jones of Orem, Utah; Jim and Cristina (Jones) Brown of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Chris L. and Lorie Jones of Lakewood, California, and 30 grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters Lynn and Catherine Jones, Eugene and Sandy Jones, Gayle (Jones) Murdock, Cont and Boni Jones, Layne and Odetta (Jones) Wilcox. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Boyd Murdock.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 21, at 11:00 am at the Vermont 1st Ward LDS Chapel on 400 East 400 North in Orem, Utah. Viewing will be from 9:00 am to 10:45 am prior to the services. Services are under the direction of Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary. Interment will be in the Orem City Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by VFW #4.
