During the Civil War, Archibald served in Company B, 49th Alabama Infantry. He fought in some of the bloodiest battles of that war; Shiloh, Vicksburg, Corinth ( Mississippi), Baton Rouge, and Port Hudson, Louisiana. While in Port Hudson this unit was captured and exchanged. It was sent to Dalton, Georgia and fought in the battle of Atlanta where many were sacrificed. This regiment was reduced to a few and was assigned to General Hood and fought in the battle of Franklin, Tennessee. No doubt Archibald's experience in the Mexican War helped to keep him alive when so many of his unit were killed.

When he returned to DeKalb County, he became one of that county's most respected citizens. He was a man of considerable means and the home, which was built in 1853 in Wills Valley, was demonlished so a shopping mall could be established on the grounds. It had been the oldest cabin in DeKalb County at the time it was destroyed. Many family members were saddened and angry that it could not be saved.

Ellen Tinker Faulkner died on the 9th of July 1895. Archibald died on the 15th October 1897.

Archibald, Ellen, Eliza, Hester, Tennessee and Marietta are all buried in Glenwood Cemetery in Ft. Payne.
