I have a lot of info on Gilshot Thomas if you are interested. I also have a copy of his will and his maternal grandfather's will. Are you related to Gilshot, if so, please tell me how. Gilshot had at least 6 children according to colonial records, petitions for land. I know 2 of the names, James & Elizabeth. I have strong evidence to support my theory that a son was named Gilshot Jr.

Additionally, there are 2 James Thomases. One is his son, the other is a contemporary whom I believe was a younger brother. James, the older one, appears on the scene at about the same time as Gilshot and was born in 1744, Cecil County, MD. Gilshot's Grandfather, Lawrence Gailshiott, did not mention James, because the will was written in March, 1743 & Lawrence died in May/June of 1744.

One more thing, for the Record. Lieutenant Gilshot Thomas served in the Screven Militia during the Revolutionary War under the command of a Colonel John Thomas (I have no evidence of relation). In 1781, a Private Gilshot & a Private James Thomas served in the SC Militia under the command of LT Buxton. I propose, that PVT James and Gilshot are the 2 kids. I am still researching to find if there is any evidence of the ages of the 2 in SC.

P.S.> I have web site with the genealogy I know. If you are interested, please let me know via direct e-mail to
