Carol Coleman Turner, 53, passed away Friday, October 31, 2014 at Candler Hospital in Savannah. She was a native and lifelong resident of Appling County; a former nurse’s aide at Lakeview Retirement Center and a member of Bethel Free Will Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her father, Jerry Coleman and her husband, James Turner.

She is survived by her mother, Alice C. Oliver and husband, Roy of Baxley; one daughter, Jennifer Holcomb and husband, Kevin of Florence, AZ; one son, Michael Morris and wife, Amanda of Surrency; five grandchildren, Amanda Jane Norris, Nikki Geary, Chyenne Geary, Kathrin Lynn Holcomb and Susan Carol Holcomb; one brother, Jerry Lee Coleman of Surrency; one nephew, Jerry Lee Gibson of Baxley, and special friend, Wyman Morris of Baxley.

Memorial services were held Tuesday, November 4 at 4:00 p.m. from the Miles-Nobles Funeral Home chapel with the Reverend Virgil Carter officiating.

Mary Edith Thornton Hughes, 79, of Hazlehurst, died Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at Memorial University Medical Center. Mary Edith was born August 16, 1935 in Jeff Davis County to the late George Washington Parlor and the late Myrtice Carter Parlor. She was a native of Jeff Davis County, a homemaker and a member of Southside Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Horace Thornton and Bonnie Hughes.

Survivors include four daughters, Terry and David Hughes of Hazlehurst, Brenda K. and Randy Roberson of Baxley, Mary “Lisa” Thornton Sharpe of Hazlehurst, and Sherry Lynn and Jessi Newell of Hazlehurst;one son, Snooky and Gail Thornton of Hazlehurst; one sister, Larnell Driggers of Baxley; ten grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held Saturday, November 1 at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home with the Rev. Joey Andrews, the Rev. Wayne Williamson, and the Rev. Nathan Smith officiating. Interment followed in Liberty Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Jonah Wilson, Norman Saniford, Ryan Sharpe, Rylee Sharpe, Alan McGuirt, Will Hulette and Alex Grantham.

Honorary pallbearers were all family and friends in attendance.

Musical selections were rendered by Selena Carelock and Misty Barber.

Wallace “Pete” Hall, 91, of Surrency, died Friday, October 31, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah. Pete was born October 25, 1923, to the late Norman Wallace Hall and the late Doshie Mae McDaniel Hall. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church and was a retired farmer. He was preceded in death by one sister; Jean Norris; four brothers, Sam Hall, Lawrence Hall, Quinton Hall, and Bud Hall.

Survivors include one sister, JoAnn Stafford of Hinesville. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held Sunday, November 2 at 2:00 p.m. at Bethel United Methodist Church. The Rev. Derek Hobbs and the Rev. Virgil Carter officiated.

Active pallbearers were Ronnie Hunter, Michael Hunter, Terry Overstreet, Louis Eason, Dale Stafford and Michael Hall.

Interment followed in Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Musical selections were rendered by Glenda Kersey and Mona Shumans.

Visitation was held Saturday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Swain Funeral Home.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.

Christine Ellen Darsey, 82, of Baxley, died Thursday, October 30, 2014. Mrs. Darsey was born November 19, 1931 in Wayne County to the late Charlie Anderson Williams and the late Ellen Tyre Williams. She was a member of Harvest Temple Church of God. Mrs. Darsey retired from the B and F Restaurant as a waitress for many years. She was preceded in death by a son, Andy Metts.

Survivors include her four daughters, Nancy Tyre, Bunny Metts, Jeannie Moody and Nelda Fennell, all of Baxley. Five grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services were held Sunday, November 2 at 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of Swain Funeral Home with the Rev. Earl Wiggins officiating.

Interment followed in Antioch Congregational Christian Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Benjie Tyre, Tyler Taylor, John Fennell, John Pearson, Edsel Moody and Randall “Rat” Kersey.

Honorary pallbearers were the Pavilion nurses and staff, Comfort Care Hospice, Sherry Spell, Amy Hunter and all friends in attendance.

Visitation was held Saturday evening, 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Swain Funeral Home.

Musical selections were rendered by Glenn Beach.

Miles-Nobles Funeral Home announces the funeral arrangements for Mr. John Henry Sikes, 86, who passed away Saturday, November 8, 2014 at Community Hospice in Vidalia. He was born and raised in Baxley and was the son of the late Oscar and Tempie Sikes. He was a United States Army Veteran of the Korean War and a carpenter by trade. He was a member of the Baxley Fire Department for 32 years. Sikes loved the lord and his family. He had a passion for music, loved singing and playing the guitar and enjoyed fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Tempie Sikes; a son, Oscar Sikes and eight brothers and sisters, Oscar Sikes, Jr., Leon Sikes, Ollie Mae Suddeth, Ocilla Carter, Mamie Lee Hicks, Estelle Peavey, Edna Sistrunk and James Sikes.

He leaves behind his wife of 64 years, Gladys Sikes of Baxley; seven children, Susan Johnson and husband, Melvin of Washington, Sandra Smith and Billy of Reidsville, Marie Lamb and husband, Ronnie of Baxley, Marilyn Jenkins of Baxley, Danny Sikes and wife, Jeannie of Baxley, Connie Anderson and husband, Kelly of Coolidge and Carolyn Griffin and husband, Corey of Baxley; one sister, Ethelyne Hunter of McDonough; one brother, Donnie Sikes of Baxley; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Visitation was held Sunday, November 9 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Funeral services were held Monday, November 10, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Miles-Nobles Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Rick Brown, the Reverend Brian Patrick and the Reverend Kelly Anderson officiating.

Interment followed in Ten Mile Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Corey Deen, Dusty Smith, Rusty Smith, Adam Hallman, Daniel Sikes and Chavis Griffin.

Honorary pallbearers were the active and retired members of the Baxley Fire Department.

Miles-Nobles Funeral Home announces the death of Jean Roberson, 59, who passed away Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at her residence. She was a native and lifelong resident of Appling County and a retired CNA at Appling Nursing Home.

Survivors include eight brothers and sisters, Buddy Roberson and wife, Karen of Cochran, Larry Roberson of Baxley, D.L. Roberson of Baxley, Susan C. Hall of Baxley, Diane Batton and husband, Sammy of Hazlehurst, Beth Reeves of Hazlehurst, Richard Roberson, Sr. of Baxley and Michael Roberson and wife, Jan of Blackshear; a special friend, Tressa Adams of Brunswick; special niece and nephew, Richard Roberson, Jr. and Tana Roberson whom she helped raise; several nieces, nephews and great nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held Friday, November 7 at 11:00 a.m. at Friendship Congregational Church Cemetery with the Reverend Bryant Bishop officiating.

The family received friends one hour prior to funeral services at the cemetery.
Interment followed.

Active pallbearers were family members.

Ernest D. “Fuzzy” Jones, 78, of Baxley, died Thursday, November 6, 2014 in Savannah. Jones was born January 3, 1936 in Appling County to the late Robert Matthew “Doc” Jones and the late Lois Bullard Jones and was preceded in death by two children, Robert Matthew Jones and Jennifer Marie Jones. He was retired as an electrician after 35 years of service with Waters Electric. He was a man of few words yet was a gentle and kind-spirited family man with a great sense of humor. He was a lover of nature and an avid sports fan.

Survivors include his wife, Sarah Harleen Jones of Baxley; a daughter, Mary Evette Jones of Atlanta; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Bobbie and Billy McNeely of Swainsboro, Mary Akins of Blackshear and Pat and Eugene Rouse of Jesup. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Memorial services were held Saturday, November 8 at 4:00 p.m. from the chapel of Swain Funeral Home with the Rev. Rick Brown officiating.

Visitation began Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Swain Funeral Home.

Musical selections were rendered by Lucy Overstreet.

Remembrances may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital (501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105-1942) or The Herrington Homestead (8109 GA Hwy. 297 Swainsboro, GA 30401).

Horace Herndon, 88, of Odum, died Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at Altamaha Healthcare in Jesup. Herndon was born February 22, 1926 to the late Jacob Gordon Herndon and the late Mary Griffin Herndon. He was a member of Cornerstone United Pentecostal Church in Jesup. Herndon was a retired farmer and a veteran of WWII having served in the United States Army. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dovie Lou Herrington Herndon, a son, Herman Herndon, and a granddaughter, Dovie Lanette Herndon.

Survivors include four daughters, Carolyn (Edward) Fales and Catherine (Sammy) Hutto, all of Jesup, Virginia (Ernest) Roach and Sandra Nail, all of Odum; one son, Harvey (LaWanda) Herndon of Baxley; 15 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and three great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services were held Friday, October 31, at 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of Swain Funeral Home. The Reverends Ray Worley, Sammy Hutto and Mark Grimes officiated.

Active pallbearers were Harvey Herndon, Dusty Herndon, Lewis Nail, Chris Nail, Vince Fales, Matthew Hutto, Michael Hutto, Chance Herndon, Greg Fales and Damian Nail.

Honorary pallbearers were Altamaha Healthcare of Jesup and Buck Scarborough.

Musical selections were rendered by David Williams and Tennille Green.

Interment followed in Memorial Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation was held Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Swain Funeral Home.

Robin Cleveland Bruce, 60, of Baxley, died Monday, November 3, 2014 in Crossview Care Center in Pineview. Bruce was born July 14, 1954 in Appling County to the late Carroll Dane Bruce, Sr. and the late Aldine Kicklighter Bruce. He was a construction worker for Steel Structure. He was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include one sister, Mia Karnoutsos of Baxley; one brother and sister-in-law, Dane and Judy Bruce of Baxley; several nieces and nephews also survive.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Robin Bruce Bereavement Fund c/o of Swain Funeral Home P.O. Box 536, Baxley, Ga. 31515.

Ethel Holmes Wilcox was born on Feb. 16, 1919 to the late Charlie and Lou Holmes in Telfair County. Ethel later moved to Appling County where she met and was united in holy matrimony to the late Waymon Wilcox.

They were married for 76 years and to this union 11 children were born. She retired from Hazlehurst Mills after many years of dedicated service. Mrs. Wilcox was a faithful member of Surrency Grove Baptist Church. During her membership she sang in the choir for over 65 years before her health failed.

God unveiled his master plan and called Ethel Wilcox to her final resting place on Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2014.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and three children, Nathaniel, David and Clarence Wilcox.

Survivors include two daughters, Gloristine (Jack) Jones of Surrency and Portia (Clifford) Wooden of Albany; seven sons, Quanida Wilcox, Stanford (Gloria) Wilcox, James Lamar (Margaret) Wilcox, James Lerico (Willie Mae) Wilcox, Donny (Faye) Wilcox, all of Surrrency, Bobby (Johnetta) Wilcox of Alexandria, LA and Tony Wilcox of Ridgeway, S.C.; two daughters-in-law, Leila Bell Wilcox, all of Surrency and Mary Wilcox of Boosier City, LA; special granddaughter, who she raised as a child: Tremealia “Tarsha” Sanders, and a god-daughter, Yvette White. She was a loving grandmother to four generations and will be missed by 35 grandchildren, 51 great grandchildren and 18 great great grandchildren. She will also be cherished by special friends, Lucille Coleman, Algertha Ellis, Dot Tillman, Gertrude Jones, Geraldine Hayes and Rosa Jones and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Celebration of life services for Ethel Holmes Wilcox was held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 15 at Surrency Grove Baptist Church with Minister Lillie Burkett presiding. The Rev. Daniel Smith gave the eulogy. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers were grandsons.

Musical selections were rendered by Standford Wilcox and the choir.

Lester Smith, Jr. was born Dec. 23, 1936 to Pearle C. Smith and Buster Smith.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by Clareatha K. Smith, Wanda Jean King, William Charles King and Lorenzo Bernard Smith and one son-in-law, Calvin Wallace.

Lester was retired from Youmans and ITT Rayonier and attended school in Surrency.

He is survived by his children, Isabell (Wilbert) Munford of Baxley, Ida Mae Smith, Junenella (Thomas) Andrews, Brenda (MP) Smith, all of Surrency and Lester (Nancy) Smith of Macon; sisters, Ruby Dell (Albert) James of Surrency, Maggie Dell of Green Cove Spring, Fla., Ida Jones Alnoria (Forrest) Norwood, all of Baxley; one sister-in-law, Geraldine Jones of Baxley; brothers, James Edward (Teresa) Smith of Miami, Fla., Lonzo (Lucy) Smith of Surrency, the Rev. Moultrie Smith of Green Cove Spring, Fla., Eugene (Devora) Smith of Baxley, the Rev. Stewart (Martha) Smith of Hazlehurst; aunts, Eddie Mae Smith of Green Cove Spring, Fla. and Henrietta Gibbs of Tallahassee, Fla. He also leaves 19 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Homegoing celebration services for Lester Smith, Jr. were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, Nov. 17 at Surrency Grove Baptist Church. Bishop Leonard Gibbs officiated. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Musical selections were rendered by the congregation, Ta’liyah Smith and Lance Newkirk.

Active pallbearers were Tony Smith, Leavern Thomas, Charles Jones, Marcus Gibbs, Lothair White and James Gibbs.

Honorary pallbearers were Clinties White, Colon Hayes, Paul Jackson and Mike Gibbs.

Survivors include her husband, David Pickren of Baxley; four children, Mary Olesen and husband, Steve of New Jersey, Sonya Sanchez of Loganville, Glenn Bridges and wife, Denise of Ohio and Guy Triano and wife, Angel of South Carolina; two stepchildren, Lin Buchanan and husband, Tim of Tennessee and Al Pickren and wife, Erika of Buena Vista; ten grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; one brother, Jack Weinstein of Florida; several nieces, nephews and other family also survive.

Visitation was held Friday, November 14 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Funeral services were held Saturday, November 15 at 11:00 a.m. at Friendship Congregational Christian Church with the Reverend Barry Teutsch officiating.

Entombment followed in Friendship Congregational Christian Church Cemetery.

Joseph Lee Miller, Jr. departed this life on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2014 at the Appling Healthcare System. Joseph was born May 24, 1958 in Appling County (Baxley) to Joseph Lee Miller, Sr. and Gladys Calhoun (Miller) Collins. Joseph joined the Upper Room Temple Church in Baxley at an early age. Later in life he moved to Glennville where he joined First African Missionary Baptist Church. After returning to Baxley he joined the Holy Ghost Temple of Apostolic Faith Church. He was united in holy matrimony to Vernell Robinson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Susie Ann Hansley, Mary Ann Collins and brother, Daniel Miller.

Survivors include his wife, Vernell Robinson Miller of Baxley; two stepsons, Randy Robinson and Lewis Allen Barron, Jr., both of Baxley; four brothers, H. J. (LaNera) Miller of Columbia, S.C., Elex (Jackie) Miller of Savannah, LeOtis (Kim) Williams of Baxley, Wendall (Laricia) Williams of Atlanta; one sister, Mary Ann (Pete) Smith of Tampa, Fla., caretakers, Billy and Etha Jean Carter of Baxley; six aunts, Mildred Cain of Glennville, as a loving and devoted mother, Betty Richardson, Almaree Miller, Lynette Holmes, and Betty Miller, all of Baxley and Nora Lee Calhoun of Ludowici; four uncles, Roosevelt Calhoun of Ft. Celebration of life services were held for Joseph Lee Miller, Jr. at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15 at Upper Room Church of Christ Holiness Unto the Lord. Elder Gregory Russell presided. Eulogy was given by Elder Joseph Lumpkin.

Memorialization was by cremation.

Musical selections were rendered by Carletha Walker, Christine Wright, Melvin Mims and a combined choir.

Patsy Belle Anderson McClure, 75, of Baxley, died Sunday, November 9, 2014. Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 12, in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home, McRae, with burial at Telfair Memorial Gardens.

A native of Laurel Cliff, OH, Patsy Belle was the daughter of the late Shad and Mary Decker Anderson. She was a homemaker. Patsy was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Dover, and a great-granddaughter, Alana Land.

Survivors include her husband, Lloyd McClure, Baxley; children, Randy Bunting, Baxley, and Michelle (Steve) Ricks, McRae; stepchildren, Barbara Coleman, Pensacola, FL, Carol Beach, Carrollton, and Lee McClure, Carrollton; brother and sister, David Anderson, KY, and Donna Henry, Foster, KY; grandchildren, Lee Bunting, Mary Kinnett, Shane Bunting, Jessica Pettis, Tiffany Spires, Patty Land, Evan Ricks, Preston McClure, Paige Houston and April McClure; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Albert Calvin Griffis, 88, of Waycross, died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2014. Griffis was born May 15, 1926 in Appling County to the late Ottis Lee Griffis and the late Isabele Thornton Griffis. He was a member of the Church of God in Waycross. Griffis was a veteran of the United States Army AirForce and retired from T&R Oil Company.

He was preceded in death by his wives, Stella Griffis, Gertie Griffis, a daughter, Gail Byrd and five siblings.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Debra Griffis of Zebulon; six sisters and brothers-in-law, Evon Byrge of Savannah, Ruth and Bob Devereaux of Callahan, Fla., Lydia and Hubert Hart of Mineral, Virginia, Kathryn and Lonell Wright of Screven, Roxie Litton of Baxley and Linda and Bob Kimbrell of Mershon; brother and sister-in-law, Colvin and Jean Griffis of Baxley; son-in-law, Ray (Freda) Byrd of Waycross; stepson, Andrew (Juanita) Sears of Waycross; five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15 at the Swain Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Lamar Lee and the Rev. Hubert Hart officiating. Interment was in Antioch Congregational Christian Church Cemetery with Military rites.

Active pallbearers were Jerry Jones, Don Griffis, Armon Griffis, Wesley Griffis, Connor Griffis, Drew Griffis and Mitch Devereaux.

Musical selections were rendered by Stephanie Allen and Lana Jill Williamson.

Macile V. Franklin Buchanan, 94, of Baxley, died Monday, November 10, 2014. Buchanan was born January 28, 1920 in Levy County, Florida, to the late George Newton Franklin and the Gladys Belle Rogers Franklin. She was of the Baptist Faith. Buchanan retired as store manager for Paulus Music Store. She was preceded in death by her husbands, James M. Faulkner, John Buchanan, Bobby Rose and Thomas Bedwell.

Survivors include her six daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra L. Seals of Jacksonville, Florida, Gladys (Cookie) Kite of Welaka, Florida, JoAnne and Randy Dewberry of Baxley, Carol Daughtery of McIntosh, Florida, Jennifer Bowden of Tampa, Florida and Ruth Ann and Mark Diggery of Zephyrhills, Florida; one sister, Berry Lou Lucheesee of Lee, MA; ten grandchildren, four great grandchildren and one great-great grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Wednesday, November 12 at 2:00 p.m. from Greenlawn Cemetery in Jacksonville, Florida with the Rev. Justin McLellan officiating.

Arrangements were under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.

Survivors include her parents, Artis and Jessie Mae Vaughn of Baxley; two daughters, Jessica Hampton and husband, Chad of Baxley and Jennifer Murphy and husband, Brent of Baxley; two brothers, George Vaughn and Miles Vaughn and wife, Gina; two sisters, Julie Carter and husband, Jimmy and Brenda Gruber and husband, David; three grandchildren, Felicity Lee, Mark Lee and Payson Murphy and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Sunday, November 23 at 3:00 p.m. at Miles-Nobles Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Lamar Lee officiating.

Miles-Nobles Funeral Home announces the death of Tony Eugene Tomlinson, 26, who passed away Saturday, November 15, 2014 at his residence. The Florida native had resided in Baxley the past 21 years and was a construction worker.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lloyd Eugene Tomlinson.

Surviving are his mother, Tammy Potter of Soperton; two children, Cameron and Dallas Tomlinson of Baxley; three brothers, Adam Tomlinson of Baxley, Derec Griffin of Baxley and John Griffin of Vidalia; one sister, April Tomlinson of Baxley; grandparents, Lloyd and Ann Tomlinson of Waycross and Judy Maddox of Jacksonville, Fl.

Memorial services were held Wednesday, November 19 from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the residence of Adam Tomlinson at 504 Sycamore Rd. Baxley, GA 31513.

Betty Jean Murray, 78, of Baxley, died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2014. Betty Jean was born Oct. 17, 1936 in Appling County to the late Horace L. Mixon and the late Cora Rena Mixon. She was a member of Carter’s Chapel Church of God of Prophecy.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Lenton McLeighton and her sister, Genora Martinez.

Survivors include her husband, George Clarence Murray of Baxley; one daughter, Patricia Murray of Richmond Hill; one son, Greg Murray of Baxley and five grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, Nov. 17 at Swain Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverends Andrew Kersey and Darrel Quinn officiating.

Active pallbearers were David Kersey, Craig Bennett, Jerry Murray, Jeffery Murray, Dale Murray and Jack Cooper.

Interment followed in Memorial Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery.

Musical selections were rendered by Jerry Kersey and Sandra Nettles.

Jerry William Miller, 62, of Graham, died Thursday, November 20, 2014 at his residence.

Miller was born March 6, 1952 in Appling County to the late W. Buddie Miller and the late Adell Dunn Miller. He attended Dunn Memorial Baptist Church and was a carpenter.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon Smith Miller of Graham; daughter and son-in-law, Hayley and Nick Johnson of Charlotte, N.C; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jason William and Brandi Miller of Graham and Josh Randall and Kacie Miller of Russellville, AL; two sisters, Barbara Miller and Shelba Miller, both of Graham; brother and sister-in-law, Wesley and Cindy Miller of Powder Springs. Seven grandchildren, Tyler Daniels, Mason Miller, Lyla Joy Miller, Evan Miller, Oliver Miller, Emma Johnson and Emmaline Miller and eight nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held Saturday, November 22 at 3:00 p.m. from Dunn Memorial Baptist Church with the Rev. Allen Rea and the Rev. Brian Brazzell officiating. Interment followed in Miller Cemetery at Graham United Methodist Church.

Active pallbearers were Ricky Hall, Jerad Stone, Joey Boyette, Greg Crosby, Ryan King, and Dale Smith.

Honorary pallbearers were members of Dunn Memorial Baptist Church, Simone Van Wright and the Rev. David Griffin.

Miles-Nobles Funeral Home announces the death of Blake Dyal, 25, who passed away Tuesday, November 18, 2014 after an extended illness. He was a lifelong resident of Appling County and a member of the Appling County High School graduating class of 2008.

He served in the United States Navy; attended church in Appling County and was an avid outdoorsman.

Survivors include his son, Stephen Chase Dyal; father, Farris Dyal and wife, Angie of Baxley; mother, Sherry Rentz Dyal and husband, Seth Fullilove of Baxley; a brother, Luke Dyal of Baxley; two sisters, Elizabeth Fullilove and Chelsae Fullilove, both of Charleston, SC.

Visitation was held Friday, November 21 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Funeral services were held Saturday, November 22 at 2:00 p.m. at Sand Hill Creek Freewill Baptist Church with the Reverend Danny Hicks officiating. Interment followed in Zoar Cemetery.

Dorothy “Snookie” Dunn, 85, of Hazlehurst, died Saturday, November 22, 2014 at The Pavilion. Dunn was born November 28, 1928 in Appling County to the late Grover Dunn and the late Bessie Oglesby Dunn. She was a member of Consolation Baptist Church and was preceded in death by two brothers, Samuel Dunn, Cleveland “Preacher” Dunn and two sisters, Christine Dunn and Ruth Dunn Land.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews

Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 25 at 11:00 a.m. from Consolation Baptist Church with the Rev. Paul Dubberly officiating. Interment followed in Baxley Graveyard Cemetery.

Wenson Juanita Howell, 91, of Hilliard, passed away on Wednesday, November 19, 2014. She was born May 8, 1923 in Appling County, GA to the late Ivy & Mary Spivey. Juanita was predeceased by her husband of 57 years in 2003, William Lamar Howell (died 2003). Survivors include her daughters, brother, sisters, grandchildren, great grandchildren, numerous other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 22 at 11am at River Road Baptist Church, 21067 County Road 121 Hilliard, FL 32046, with Rev. James Conner and Pastor Benjamin Loyd officiating.
