Whether or not this is of any value to you: I have a copy of a 1767 or '69 Salisbury, Ct., deed, witnessed by James Nichols Jr. Also, James Nichols and Christopher Dutcher(of Roelof/Ruluff) were residing Canaan 1738-9. This was James Nichols Jr, son of James Nichols and Mercy Reynolds of Rhode Island. This Nichols line migrated into Danby and Addison (Shoreham)and/or Panton Vermont. A William White and Abraham Vandeusen Purchased 200 acres (for eighty pounds) of land in the Salisbury area called Weatogue in 1720. The year cited by Malcolm Day Rudd as the "beginning of Salisbury made at Weatogue" with said purchase is 1719. Roeloff Dutcher,Johannes Dyckman, Lawrence Knickerbacker settled with White and Vandeusen. I believe each of the a bove surnames appears in the original Panton, Vt. grant with James Nichols and "61 others). John Reynolds (elder) purchased lands from White and Knickerbacker. His daughter Lorena married Asa Nichols (1790 Shoreham census) My book "Grandmother's Bible" concerns the Reynolds and Greene families of R.I., both of which lines include many marriages with Nichols'. Most were from the Warwick south area including N.Kingstown. That area was long claimed by Connecticut.
