Josiah Benson Passes Away
Josiah Heath Benson, retired Petaluma district rancher, who for the past 22 years has resided at 220 Seventh street, passed away at the family home at 5 o'clock Monday morning, following a prolonged illness, at the age of 85.
Mr. Benson was born October 22, 1857, in Iowa and came west with his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Josiah Heath Benson, when a boy.
The octogenarian is survived by his wife Sara E. Benson, a daughter, Mrs. Helen Martha Walker, of Palo Alto; a brother, Emmett Benson, of Bodega avenue, this city, and a sister, Mrs. Mattie E. Miller, of Napa. He was the father of the late Josiah H. Benson III and Lester H. Benson. He was also the uncle of Mary B. Ward, of Forestville, and the grandfather of Helen Meredith Walker.
Mr. Benson was a member of the Christian church.
The body was taken to the J. C. Mount funeral parlors on Washington Street. Funeral will be held at the Mount chapel at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. Internment, Cypress Hill Cemetery.
