Audred Whiteman Masters died early Sunday, October 31, 2010, after a brief illness. She was 96 years old and had lived at the White Sands of La Jolla since 1995. She was born in Twin Bridges, MT, the only child of Myron and Irene (Holt) Whiteman. She grew up in Sheridan, WY, where her father was a pharmacist, and attended the University of Nebraska, where she was a proud member of Alpha Phi. She married Bert Masters in 1934. He predeceased her in 1981. She is survived by her sons, William Myron Masters of Oneonta, NY, and James Allan Masters of Huntington Beach. CA. There are four grandchildren: David and Vanessa Masters both of Huntington Beach, CA, Mark Masters of Fort Wayne, IN, and Martha Masters of Albany, NY. There are four great-grandchildren: Maxwell and Martin Masters, and Dylan and Casey Rose Van Nostrand. Audred lived in Wyoming and Seattle, Washington, briefly before moving to Los Angeles, San Gabriel, Santa Rosa, and Long Beach before retiring to the San Diego area in 1968. She dressed with elegance, and was a witty, humorous person, always thoughtful of others and open minded. Her career was as a loving mother and mentor. She loved plants and flowers, and most of all her family. The music of the '30s, '40s, and '50s was always ready in her head, along with Presbyterian hymns. She loved owning and reading books, volunteering, and traveling. The family held a private memorial service on November 5th. She was laid to rest beside her husband at the EI Camino Memorial Park in San Diego.
