My goodness, what a lot of work you’ve done for me. I should perhaps explain where I’m coming from. I have traced an ancestor Nicholas White, born c.1833. He and his wife Catherine Walsh (born c.1835) had children in Wexford, Ireland between 1866 and 1878. None of the children I have found records for are called Margaret, but there is a gap between 1868 and 1875 so that’s plenty of room for another child. It’s known that this Nicholas went to America, but returned again – no further details were remembered about him, but this couple (with daughter Catherine and son John) do show as being in Ireland again in 1901. Their son John, born 1878, shows on a passenger record as heading to his sister Mrs Margaret Cousins in Sacramento in 1908 (also that he had been in Montana beforehand).
So as you seem to be very good at searching US censuses I wonder if you’d have a go at finding this Nicholas for me? So far I’ve been hitting brick walls.
As to the wonderful records you gave me – I haven’t been able to view the 1910 census record for Maggie Cousins – does it say she had two children in total or two + Mamie. If the former, I take it you feel this particular Maggie Cousins had Catherine (born c.1896) and Frank J (born c.1890) to her and her husband James who she may have divorced by 1910? I guess the big clue here is that he was from Wexford. I suppose the question is whether they married before or after 1882 immigration.
One other question the Mamie Cousins who shows as a lodger in the Murray household with Frank – what source is that. It’s very close to the 1910 census when she was with Maggie when aged 14. So is it 1909? Also, I wonder why it says she was a widow if she was really divorced? What do you think Mamie stands for?
Thank you,
