Yes. Scott & Gilbert manufacturing chemists (Sacramento then San Francisco) sold all kinds of things under the patented name TopNotch--cooking extracts, soda, olive oil, medicines -- all kinds of things. My gggrandfather was John Baptist Gilbert who eventually bought out Scott. JBG ran a summer camp for his employees near Lagunitas which he called Camp Topnotch. I have some amazing photos of it. He was quite the guy. He managed Buck Taylor's wild west show in the 1890's in SF and sponsored hot air balloons that rose over Golden Gate Park with trapeze artists performing below them -- all to advertise Scott & Gilbert and TopNotch. What I wouldn't' give to come across a photo of that.
