Surnames: Gosch, Vernon, Doolittle, Blodgett, Koltzau,
Seeking info on 3 Gosch brothers who settled in Hot Spring area of Modoc County.
Marx, Claus Christopher and John Peter Frederick Gosch were the 3 brothers. Marx came over first in March 1865, followed by the other 3 brothers, Claus, John and Hans in June 1867. They are all listed as having resided in Derstedt, Holstein, Germany. I haven't found Hans on any records so far other than the Hamburg passenger list.

Marx married his brother's widow Telsche Kolytan/Koltzau - I think the brother is Claus who died abt 1886 after Telsche's 2 oldest children are born (Peter and Anna), but before her and Marx's daughter Katrina 'Katie' is born in 1887. Marx died in 1925, his wife Telsche in 1928. Peter died in Napa while visiting friends in 1906 and there is a news article on the Modoc county genweb site on his death and relationship to Marx (stepson and nephew). Anna married unknown Blodgett and had one son Louie Jefferson Blodgett. Katie married Ralph Waldo Doolittle and died in 1974 in Alturas.

Marx and Claus' brother John Peter Frederick Gosch married and had 2 children: Frank and Clara Vina Gosch. his wife died sometime between 1888 when Clara was born and 1900 as she's not listed with them on the 1900 census. Frank died in 1907 and is buried in Alturas; Clara married Stonewall Jackson Vernon, lived in Lakeview, OR until Stonewall died in 1934 and she died in Prineville, OR in 1959. So far I haven't found anything on the mother of Frank and Clara. Marx and Telsche evidently ran a hotel in Canby for several years according to news articles.

There's not much for gravestones posted online for Modoc County, so hoping someone knows something or willing to see if they can find headstones for Claus, John, Telsche and Marx, and hopefully John's wife. Here is the DECEMBER 23, 1925 news article on Marx "Marx Gosch, 81, one of the pioneer settlers in the Canby section died last week and was buried at Alturas Sunday."

I've found the 3 Gosch brothers on the California Great Registers and the census records - am hoping someone knows about the family and can fill in some blanks.

any help appreciated.
