I thought I should write to the group that is helping me so there is no duplications. First, I have located through old Los Angeles City Directories an 1938 listing for the Ideal Auto Courts where we lived. I have also found through the directories a listing for my family in 1938 and 1939. The address for the courts and where my family is listed are different. The courts address is 5840 Compton Ave. and for my family is 5916 Crocker. These two addresses are not far apart.
I could not find the grocery store I was looking for but I finaly found my old picture of the location and the store name was K-B Ranch Market. It was across the street from the Ideal Auto Courts.
The location was severial blooks East of where President Roosevelt traveled on Figueros Street in 1938 while I was living there as a child.
I have also done some research on the schools of the area. I did a surch of the present day schools and have found two of special interest. I have found that just north of where I lived was Slauson Ave and to just the north of that is a rail road track, I know while walking to school that I did not cross a rail road. So all the schools that way I can elimate. I have also pulled off the 1938 directry all the schools for that time. The two schools that I am looking at that are open today that were there in 1938 are Lillian Street Elementry School and Miramonte Elementry School. I will need to check through the remainder of the 1938 schools and see if any others that were there then which are within my walking area might not be around today.
Any help in this area would be greatly appreciated.
