It's me again.

I finally accessed you entire message. It's interesting that you have the information about Samuel McCurdy's estate and who it was passed on to. I found that information about 18 years ago while doing family research in our local librar without the benefit of computerized databases. I also know some property went to Mabel Maggi in San Mateo California. I was unable to find any of her descendents but did see a posting on a message board on Geneology.com which I could not access.

I have further information about an uncle, Sam McCurdy that came to California about 1855. He was uncle to Samuel, David McCurdy and James Ross (son of said Sam's sister Ann McCurdy Ross McGowan) all of Ballintoy. James Ross married my great grandmother's sister, Ann Jane Christy. My great Grandmother, Margaret Josephine Christy was mother to my grandfather, Albert Archibald MacCurdy (don't know how or why the "a" was put in the name}. I have no knowledge of his father but have suspected it might have been either David or Samuel that came to California, as they came here about 1877, the year of my grandfather's birth. The Christy family is from Ballintoy parish, the townland of Maghernahare (spelling?) I visited Ballintoy in 1994 and was able to find the Christy head stone that dated back to 1757. I also found a headstone for a Simon McCurdy who was brother to above named Ann McCurdy Ross McGowan. Those were the siblings to the older Sam McCurdy that came to Humboldt County. I believe there was another sibling, but my old research records are not handy right now. I will get them out.

Anyway, family story goes this way. My grandfather emigrated to Canada about 1910 to Vancouver, then to Winnepeg. His mother, Margaret Christy and her brother James Christy, also came to Canada. My father, James Christy MacCurdy, emigrated to California in 1952 and I subsequently came here to Humboldt County in 1965. At that time my grandfather told me that I have relatives here. It wasn't foremost in the mind of an 18 year old girl to hunt up old ghosts but eventually I became interested and subsequently found this connection to the McCurdy clan. I have since learned that many McCurdy's have married Christy's so it i a difficult search. But you are my closest link to a potential Great Grandfather I have come across.

I have some good stories about your Great Great Uncle Samuel's marriage and subsequent divorse. I will share it with you at another time.

I note that you live in County Down. I have cousins on my Grandmother's side (Patterson from Coleraine) that live in Saintsfield and Newtownards. Names of Agnes and Colin Black (he had the Fiat dealership there) and Elizabeth and Alec Warden (farm interests and she is an attorney) Their parents, Martin and May Lowe, were farmers at Ringcladdy ( the name of the farm I think, in Downpatrick. So we are really living in a small world.

Please keep in touch. I will find my old research and maybe go back to the library for more.

Sincerely,

Maureen MacCurdy Hilbrink
