I looked at the index cards at the archives today for Purdy. There was not much. One card had the death of Edward Purdy and stated again it suicide and listed a newspaper, the Calaveras Prospect of 2/4/1898 but when I checked the newspapers for that year there was no issue for that date and I found nothing in the next weeks paper either.
In his probate there is a big file, as most probates tend to be. It appeared that his will had left everything to his wife Dona Hickman Purdy but she died before the probate so the heirs were listed as Emory Hickman Purdy and Victor Emanuel Perino (her grandson 5 years old). There was also a petititon in the file from some man named Frank B. Marshall Jr. stating that he should be the heir to Dona Purdy's estate but the estate did apparantly go to the other 2. The administrator of the estate was a Lizzibel B. McCoy. .
