Looking for information and location on any old grist mills in Randolph County around Pocahontas. A friend mentioned the other day that her mother made mention of taking the corn that they grew to the mill to make meal and flour. As a young family on the 1930 census they lived in the Demun area, now incorporated into Pocahontas. On the 1940 census they lived in the Spring River area. Early in the 1940’s they did live in Imboden, Lawrence County, then moved back into Pocahontas at a later date. I have found mention of a Demun Falls Mill in the Randolph History sites but no indication of where it was or when it operated. The time frame would be between 1925 and perhaps 1945, any mills in operation during those years between Pocahontas and Imboden, or close surrounding areas. Also are they still operational either as a tourist site or grinding grain. Really appreciate any input.
