Young Memphis Woman Dies After Beating.
Memphis, Jan 5, 1953. A 24-year old Arkansas beauty, brutally slugged as she walked along a dark street Fri., died late last night.
She was Miss Mary McKnight daughter of Mr. & Mrs. F. R. McKnight of Helena, Ark. She came here about three months ago & had been working as a secretary in a department store.
Ploice said they were never able to question the girl about her assailant. She underwent brain surgery for a fractured skull Fri. night & remained in a semi-coma until death.
McKnight, owner of a Helena plywood & veneer factory, flew here from Indianapolis to join his wife at their daughter's bedside.
The young blonde was found sprawled beneth a hedge bordering a shadowy sidewalk in a residential district Fri. night. Her rifled purse was nearby.
