What I'm actually interested in is the period somewhere between 1900, when he left Michigan (Calumet/Keweenaw), and 1914, when he died in Minnesota (Duluth). His brothers Wilhelm (on the census record William) and Johannes also spent some time in the States before returning to Finland. After disappearing around 1900 Matt was supposed to have been seen in San Francisco and the states of Washington and Oregon and possibly in Alaska.
