That is from: CHAPMAN-PUGH Genealogy by Minnie May PUGH, College Library, Brewton,AL. - ring any bells?
Odd point, I noticed that the siblings are ABCDEFG names at that URL. Odd too, I found that there is/was a Ft. Crawford at/near Brewton.
I have NO idea what this "CHAPMAN-PUGH" genealogy" came from but I really need to. Our family has been looking for info on our grandfather ALLEN BERTRAM CHAPMAN for perhaps 50 years now. Our earliest finds are receipts - the young boy ABC living in a boarding house in HUDSON OH and attending WESTERN RESERVE ACADEMY in HUDSON OH, tuition paid by "a" Mr. Chapman, possible given name JOHN.
My best guess is the possibility that his father went off on some out-of-town project and put him in the boarding school - but from where? No accounting for who a mother might have been, or if the mother died leaving a dad to bring up a child, or dad remarried someone who didn't want him, or that the father died in the war and a Chapman relative sent him to school ... or, or ...
We do know that our ABC had married and had (at least) 2 other families before our grandmother came along. Note the divorce and marriage dates below. If he were that casual about marriage/divorce once, he could very well have fathered yet another family including a namesake son in between #1 and #2, possibly with a PUGH wife - wherever! These could be somebody's stepchildren?
ABC married ROSA L SKINNER 1/23/1886 CANTON OH, divorced 2/12/1904. Children HAROLD MAXWELL "Max"; wf unk, institutionalized mental; adopted son living VICTORY (Victor). JOHN ALLAN never married. RAPLH EDWARD "Ed".
ABC married CATHERINE WALTERS 2/3/1903 in CANTON, she died 7/12/1912. Children ALLAN LEO and JEANETTE CATHERINE.
Some time in the 19-teens ABC married FRANCES RUTH "Ruth" CRAWFORD in the bit of WV that sticks up between OH and PA, but apparently met and lived in CANTON OH, where her mother may have kept a boarding house. Children RUTH FRANCES "Frances" CHAPMAN HENSON, CRAWFORD LIONEL CHAPMAN, PATRICIA (living), born in TARENTUM PA, then to ERIE PA where ABC was assistant fire chief for GENERAL ELECTRIC LOCOMOTIVE PLANT. Next, they moved to ORLANDO FL where it appears he worked at anything where he could be photographed in a uniform, heh. Spanish-American War (just the uniform!), sanitation and police department. He died in Orlando in the 1930s. He must have been colorful; it's said that he lied 10 years off his age when he married Ruth; he was 65 when Pat was born. ABC would have been old enough to be Ruth's father!
*FRANCES RUTH CRAWFORD's parents: (TARENTUM PA) LEVI K CRAWFORD b 3-3-1860 (where?) d 2-21-1901 TRAIN ACCIDENT (TARENTUM?). SARAH ADA SMITH b 1-31-1861 d 2-16-1928(?) Widow kept a Mrs. Crawford's boarding house, possibly at Tarentum then Canton.
Before moving to FL, we know that he had worked at bringing the NIAGARA FALLS HYDROELECTRIC GENERATOR project online, and that he worked with LEE DEFOREST on the invention of the vacuum tube necessary for electric lightbulbs among other things like the radios of the times. There are pictures and news articles, documents. Also, he was involved in some sort of (exhibit?) at the ST. LOUIS WORLD'S FAIR. Crazy Inventor type?
If there is anyone out there who has access to the CHAPMAN-PUGH genealogy books, I understand it's 2 volumes, can you please try to locate the reference linked in the first paragraph? Point me at the right county? Anything?
