Joel BROWN born about 1770 and John Wesley BROWN born about 1768 were brothers who were born in South Carolina, possibly Orangeburg or Barnwell Counties. Their parents may have been Bartlett BROWN, Jr. and Katherine HOLCOMB. They moved to Conecuh County, Alabama around 1818. Joel and Mary BROWN were the parents of Joel Makiah BROWN born in 1803 in South Carolina--he married Sarah in South Carolina and then moved to Alabama with their children. Joel BROWN, Sr. and his brother, John Wesley BROWN, moved their families together to Conecuh County, Alabama around 1818. Joel and Mary BROWN settled near Brewton and John Wesley BROWN settled his family near an area called Brownsville near Brewton in Escambia County, Alabama. John Wesley BROWN was born in SC and moved to Georgia where he married Polly Nisa and their sons were Cornelius BROWN born 1809, married Permelia BROWN; Willis BROWN born in GA married Eliza; Presley R. BROWN born in GA, married Nancy; Stephen BROWN born in GA married Sarah; Isaac H. BROWN born in GA married Nancy. John Wesley BROWN and his sons moved to an area around Brewton which may have been named Brownsville. Joel and Mary BROWN'S children may have been the following: Millard Sherwood BROWN b. 1805 in SC married Lucy Ann; Squire Brown; Sarah Brown; Mary Brown; Joseph Brown; Elihue Judah Brown born 1798 married Olive HERRINGTON; James Brown; Thomas Brown; Permelia Brown; William Russell BROWN born in 1810.
