Kathleen Currer Newell is my great great grandmother who it is said was born in 1859 in Scotland and married 17 years later (1876) in Minnesota (Cole). The only proof of her birth I have is the year written on census sheets. I am ordering her marriage certificate which apparently does not have either of her parent's names listed. The only witness besides the rector's wife is an R. Newell. I have searched for an R. Newell and have found several - but several were dead by 1876 none of them seem to be this R. Newell.
Anyone have any suggestions about where to go now? Is there a common reason why a woman doesn't seem to exist prior to being married? Prior to my search here, there has been some suggestion from family that she was Native. Was this common with native women who married white men? Is there any way to find more information?
