John & Elizabeth JACKSON HALL migrated to Quebec in 1827 from East Newton, England. I am descended from their son Francis, who later migrated to Rhode Island, US, and eventually to Minnesota.
Information on the family reveals they lived in "Bogtown". I am not certain where this is in Quebec, and records list Francis was born in 1830 in LaColle or Sacolle parish. His brothers were William and Robert.
Could LaColle/Sacolle be the Americanized name of some French parish, such as Sacre-Couer? Is anyone familiar with Bogtown, a possible nickname?
John HALL, the father, is buried in the Bogtown cemetery. He was the sexton, burying bodies during a cholera epidemic. He became ill and died while digging a grave and was buried in the mass grave with the other bodies.
