Searching for parents of Jacques Boucher b. 1547 Mortagne, Chartres, Perche, France, m. Francoise Paigne, d. July 30, 1611, France. Children include Antionette, Nicole, Etienne, Charles, Jeanne, Jean, Marin, and Gaspard. Gaspard was b. 1599 in Notredame, Mortagne, Perche, France, m. Nicole Lemaire, d. May 20, 1662 in Trois-Rivieres, St. Maurice, Canada. One of their children was Pierre. Pierre was b. Aug. 1, 1622 in Notre Dame, Mortagne, Orne, France, m. (1st) Marie-Madeleine Ouebadinoukoue in 1649. After her death he married (2) Jeanne Crevier and had 15 children, including Rene Jean Demontbrun Boucher. Any help greatly appreciated.

Also, of general interest is information regarding issuance of the seigniory of a name. I have found this in records relating to several ancestors, but do not know what this means. How and why is this given? What does it mean?

I understand Pierre Boucher was a Governor of Trois-Rivieres at one time and has his statue in the gallery of characters decorating the frontage of the Hotel of the Government in Quebec. Any info. this would be of interest.

Also, was Canada originally called News-France by the French? What is the background there?

Thanks to all. Mrs. Lesia Johnson
