I found the following in the Newmarket Era newspaper (Newmarket Ontario). November 24 1933, page 8, under the local news for Virginia (Georgina Twp.)

GEORGINA MAN DIES IN THE WEST
John Ego, Survivor of Rebellion.
The following is clipped from a Western paper and sent to the Era by a friend:
Survivor of the Riel rebellion and well-known Strathcona farmer for the past 25 years, John Ego, 66[?] died Wednesday after a lingering illness of three years. Mr. Ego came west to Qu'Appelle, Saskatchewan in 1885 with the 12th Battalion from Ontario and took part in a skirmish with Louis Riel's Indian followers. He received a musket ball through his wrist in the fight. Later her served for three year [sic] overseas in the Great War after joining up in Edmonton. Since the war he has been farming at Strathcona. He is survived by his widow, one daughter, Mrs. J.B. Main, Edmonton; three sons, Harry, Leduc; Ross, Bozeman, Montana; and Roy, Sutton, Ont.; and one sister, Mrs. W. Sheritt, Vancouver Island. Funeral service will be held Saturday at 3.30 p.m. from Andrews' Bros. funeral chapel. Rev. R.H. Lyttle will officiate and Interment will be made in the Edmonton cemetery.

Ed Note- The late John Ego was born and raised in Virginia, Township of Georgina, and left 29 years ago for the West. Angus Ego of B.C. and Charles Ego of Neepawa, B.C. are brothers of deceased, who also survive.
