Surnames: Beer Austin Back Grieve
My maternal 2nd G-grandfather, John Samuel Beer (29 Dec 1832-31 Mar 1906), was born in Devonport, Devon, England and he married my 2nd G-grandmother, Eliza Ann Back (1831-1862) in 1854. He was a butcher. They had 5 children, of whom only my G-grandfather John Samuel Beer, Jr. (1858-1934), also a butcher, was the only child to survive beyond 3 years of age.

I've recently established that John Samuel Beer, Sr. (1832-1906) emigrated to Wentworth, Ontario, Canada (in the 1870's) and had 7 children with Susannah Austin (1843-1911), who was born in Ireland, but have been unable to locate a marriage record. Their children were as follows:
- Sarah Elizabeth Beer ( 1878-?);
- Louisa A. Beer (1879-?);
- Mary Sophia Beer (1880-?);
- James Beer (1882-?);
- Ada M. Beer (1883-?);
- George Greig Beer (1885-?), who married Elder Viola Sarah Gay (1882-?) in 1910;
- Charles William Beer (1888-?).

I had heard from my mother that John Samuel Beer, Jr. (1853-1934) and his wife Elizabeth Grieve (1858-1939), who married in Liverpool in 1879, took a trip to Canada to visit a relative (presumably his father) ~1880's, but they returned to England and raised their family in Liverpool and Birkenhead.

John Samuel Beer, Sr. died in Wentworth, Ontario on 31 Mar 1906. Susannah Beer died 13 Jul 1911.

If you know anything about John Samuel Beer or Susannah nee Austin in Ontario, or their ancestors, I'd love to know more. I know a fair amount about his life in Devonport and am happy to share this.

Thanks, Sue.
