Surnames: Robb/Rabb/Mclelland
Hello, I was very interested in your post about the Robb/Rabb family in Canada. My ggggrandfather was named John Robb. He was born between 1818 and 1820 in Armagh, Ulster, Ireland. He came to Canada in the early 1840's. In a 1871 census, Ontario, Perth-his name is spelled Babb! In the 1881 census, Ontario, Perth, Mitchell-his name is spelled Rabb. I only know the family name was Robb. After John arrived in Ontario he was married to Margret Mclelland in 1846. My old family records state that John Robb Jr. was the son of John Robb Sr. and his wife Jane or Mary Jane Mclennan, both born in Ireland. In the 1901 census, Mitchell, my John is still alive and living with his unmarried daughter, Margaret. The children of my John Robb and Margaret Mclelland are;
James Robb-died in infancy
Mary Robb-married Arthur C. Davis (these are my gggrandparents.) Their children were-Mabel, *Zopher,Bertha,Darwin and Gertrude.
Jane Robb-married Andrew Massen;their children were-Dorothy and Agnes
Thomas Robb-died at the age of four
James Robb #2 died at the age of 11
Margaret married a man named Sutherland and she died at the age of 60.
Abraham Robb married Minnie Maxwell-their children were-Jennie, Walter,Frances,Fred, Harold and John.
Sarah married James Frank, their children were
John Robb , James Harold,Margaret Leah, Irene,Kenneth, Katheryn.
Elizabeth (Lizzie) Robb-married Leng Challenger(son
of Geroge and Fanny Challenger. Their children were;
Ethel, Alma, Norman and Darwin.
John Robb-was the youngest child, became a school teacher and never married. He died at the age of 81 near Edmontan.
My ggggrandmother, Mary Robb moved to Jackson Michigan along with her brother, Abraham in the mid-1870's. They helped work on the Erie canel project. That is where Mary met Arthur Davis. They married and along with Abe Robb they all moved to Waubay, Day, South Dakota.
All of my Robb's are buried at the Knox cemetery. This seems to match your family. Family stories have it that John Robb Jr. b.1818 or 1820 came to Canada with his relatives. I don't know if that meant parents or cousins. I would be very interested in hearing from you to see if we may have a connection in our Robb line.
Sincerely-Penny
