Hi,
I am interested in any information on Varnum Mathers who settled in Oxford circa 1810. Trying to find out where he settled ( township, lot and concession)and where he might be buried. He died circa 1824. His wife's name may be Abigail. His son Stephen who was born in 1794 lists his place of birth as Ontario. Stephen was grated land in Middlesex county.
I have Varnum (on a land petition index) petitioning for land in Brant in 1810. I found on the Oxford County genweb that "Vernum Mathews' who I believe is "Varnum Mathers" is listed in an 1812 assessment roll for “Oxford upon the Thames” (now known as West, East and North Oxford Townships) with 188 acres uncultivated, 12 acres cultivated and with one horse, and 2 cows as livestock (apparently also listed in 1816) | Shenston (1852), page 143
Thanks,
Janis
