Funeral Saturday Of Chas Schaefer.
The funeral of the late Charles Schaefer, who was a victim of a fatal heart attack at Palmerston on Wednesday afternoon, April 5, was held on Saturday afternoon. A service was at 1:30 at Henderson Undertaking parlors, Palmerston , followed by public service in Fordwich United church, which was largely attended. Rev. F.E. Clysdale, pastor of Palmerston United church and Rev. Heathcote, rector of the Anglican church, had charge and pallbearers were Messrs, George Ferguson of Toronto; George Sinken of Kitchener; James Pritchard, Austin Gallagher, John Darroch and Bert Fallis of Palmerston. Interment was made in Fordwich cemetery. Mr. Schaefer was seventy-seven years of age on February 1 last and was born on the third of Wallace township. When he was quite young the family moved to Mayne Corners, the homestead now being occupied by a nephew of the deceased. In 1883 he married Sarah Pike, who died about eight years ago. Surviving are two daughters and one son, [Mabel] Mrs. Thompson of Los Angeles; [Allie] Mrs. Ray Garry of Cheltenham, who is at present visiting in Los Angeles; Homer A. Schaefer, of Elora. Four sisters and one brother also survive; Mrs. C. Martin, Toronto; Mrs. Sol. Kaufman, Kitchener; Mrs. George Detwiller and Mrs. John Playford, Galt and John, Listowel. Mr. Schaaefer for years carried on business as a drover, also conducting a butcher shop at Fordwich for a time. Ten years ago he moved to Palmerston, continuing as a buyer of livestock. Six years ago he married Mrs. Elizabeth Watson of Listowel, to whom is extended sincere sympathy in her bereavement particularly hard due to her own physical affliction, being in Palmerston hospital at the present time with a broken hip.
