I believe it would make your head spin if we really knew all the shenanigans that went on in these parts , way back when . I think that many probably just traded there Lots to be near their friends or family [remember one bush lot or swamp looked pretty much like another before they were improved] . I know of many brothers who were side by side , and I doubt if that was sheer "luck of the draw" . Also back then most of these settlers really feared the Indians , and did not choose to live "next door" to the Indian Reserve . I believe that many of these settlers probably only spoke German or Gaelic and probably could not understand English [let alone read it] . Sometimes land changed hands because of a drunken wager . Sometimes according to the "lay of the land" it made more sense for neighbours to divide their land North - South rather then East - West .
