I am trying to find more about George Ley, born 1808 at Nottingham, England, who emigrated to Ontario, Canada after the 1851 English census and before the 1861 census. In the 1861 Canadian census, George Ley was aged 53, occupation cooper; with his wife Ann (nee Sanderson) aged 55; daughter Sarah 24; sons Charles 22; William 17; John 15. I understand that wife Ann died 1878, and George died before 1879 - but this might be wrong. There seems to have been another George Ley in Ontario: George Ley died 24 Nov 1875 at York, Ontario, Canada and was buried at Christie’s Methodist Pioneer cemetery, Scarborough, Ontario, Canada. I thought this was my man, but he had a headstone stating that he was a “native of Devonshire”, aged “65 years, 1 month and 16 days”. His wife Ann (nee Jebman?) died at Scarboro on 4 Dec 1881 aged 81. I would appreciate any assistance with: date and details of emigration of my George and family; details of his 1861 and 1871 census records; details of deaths for "my" George and Ann Ley. I do not have access to Ancestry's Canadian records as my family is mostly English and Australia. Thanks!
