Hello Donna,

Thank you for your message. It would be great if we had identified Elizabeth and Jane. The brig was sometimes named 'Elizabeth & Jane' in documents, rather than 'Elizabeth Jane'. It was common, I'm told, for ship owners/masters to name their vessels after their wives and daughters.

gave me, in an email, Thomas Hugh's dates as 1783/00/00 - 1860/03/20) and quotes the source as A C Jost's Guysborough Sketches, p 330-331.

So if he is your ancestor we might be sure. Was your Thomas Hugh a Mariner and do his dates conform with those above?
