Family tradition: two sacre brothers from Germany (Channel Islands) came to Harbour Grace; one brother settled there and the other moved to Twillingate Island. The surname was later spelled Sacrey (MUN folklore). Early instances: Thomas Sacrey of Leading Tickles, 1850, of Black Island (Twillingate District) 1851 (DPHW 86) 1867.
