I believe that Edmund has been referred to as Edmund Pryor (Prior) McClellan. This may be true but his brother, David McLellan, and David's wife, Fannie (B. Richards), had a son Edmund Prior McLellan b. ca. DEC1871, d. Indiantown 23APR1872 age 5 months. Again, this verifies that David was in Indiantown in 1871 but also suggests that the two Edmunds might be conflated.

I also get the sense that David, Jr., at least, preferred the spelling, 'McLellan'. Apparently Fannie was married before as she was Fannie Brown, d/o Henry Richards, when they married Portland Parish 22DEC1864.

Another item shows that more of the family likely came to NB. The Saint John, "The Daily Telegraph", dated 7DEC1889 had:

"At the house of the bride's father, W. McLELLAN, Moncton road, 28th ult., George L. BATEMAN was united in marriage by Rev. C.E. McKenzie of St. Martins church, Shediac (West. Co.) to Miss E.M. McLELLAN d/o W. McLellan and granddaughter of late Dr. CHAPMAN, Cheapside, London, England and second cousin to Hon. David McLELLAN, St. John. The groom was assisted by his brother, W.A. BATEMAN and the bride was attended by her sister, Miss Jessie McLELLAN."

This would suggest that W. McLellan and David, Sr. were 1st cousins.

This is very perplexing. There was, in 1881, in Shediac Parish, Westmorland Co., NB, a George Bateman age 19, s/o William J. (52) and Rebecca (54) Bateman. All are born in NB. In 1891, George (28) is still unmarried. His father, Wm. George (61) was b. NB although his parents were b. England, and mother, Rebecca (63) was b. England. Although George is give as single, listed following him is William George and Rebecca's daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Bateman b. China ca. 1869. A child is a daughter, Lavely? G. b. ca. 1890 (faded writing). Her father was b. NB and mother b. England. This suggests that she was Elizabeth M. McLellan b. ca. 1869, d/o W. McLellan who seems to have been involved on some marine occupation; a mariner or possibly a ship builder. I cannot find anything identifiable in 1881 nor in 1871.

George Lovitt Bateman b. Moncton Road, (Shediac Parish?), Westmorland Co., NB ca. 1860, (s/o Wm. George and Rebecca Bateman), m. Westmorland Co., NB 28NOV1889 Elizabeth M. McClellan (b. China ca. 1866), d/o William and Eliza McClellan. Jessie E. McClellan was a witness. See:
The Leavitt's (pronounced Lovitt) were noted seafarers in Maine, New England and New Brunswick. When the Loyalists arrived in 1783, it was a Leavitt who piloted the ships into harbour.
Lavely" G. was Grace Loveday Bateman, named for an aunt, see:

The latter, the death registration of Elizabeth Margaret Bateman (China 24AUG1869-11MAY1928) shows her to be a daughter of William MacClellan (b. Scotland) and of Eliza Chapman (b. England).

William McLellan b. 'Dumfrieshire', Scotland ca. 1829, d. Shediac, Shediac Parish, Westmorland Co., NB 7OCT1915 age 86 years. He was, in fact, a seaman. About 'Dumfrieshire', it is Dumfries, therefore, Dumfries-shire or Dumfriesshire often mispelt Dumfrieshire so assumed to be Dumfrie. In 1901, in Shediac Parish, William McClellan was b. 8FEB1828, his wife, Eliza, was b. 19APR1841 and their daughter, Jessie, was b. 3JAN1877. The birth-dates in 1901 are, for several, involved reasons, unreliable, but sometimes are actually correct. They lived with George (6APR1861) and E. M. (24AUG1869) Bateman. Note that E. M.'s birth date matches that on her death registration, which is a pleasant surprise.

In 1910, William MccLellan (b. Scotland ca. 1829) and his daughter, Jessie (b. China ca. 1880) were in Somerville, Middlesex Co., Massachusetts. he was a widower.

That's about as far as I can take that. If you can find a William McClellan baptized in Dumfriesshire with the right birth-date then you should have William's parents and David, Sr.'s uncle, which should lead you to his parents.
