I have recently received into my possession a letter opener made of sterling silver, engraved on this letter opener are the words: Ald. H Gray, and on the reverse it says something along the lines of City Council 1918.
Now with some research I found out that Ald. stood for Alderman which is a title of a city council member, and some further research led me to this: http://www.mhs.mb.ca/docs/people/gray_h.shtml
(a short biography) .
So now that I've located who the letter opener was originally made for, I should like to find his descendants to get the letter opener back to the family that earned it (or at least offer them right of first refusal).
Further research led me to this: http://eastanglianancestors.co.uk/fam949.html
(census records), focusing foremost on the eldest son, I was only able to track down one generation to : http://eastanglianancestors.co.uk/fam9643.html
(George William Gray). I did a quick search on Google for obituaries for the names but found nothing relevant, does anyone know of any other places to search or better does anyone know this family tree? Thank you very much in advance.
