Recently, my mother and I made a trip to Sidney to see the museum and they sent us over to the archivist at the Town Hall. We ended up with a copy of the actual inquest, which is kind of hard to read, but very interesting. We also found out that a local author, Joan Neudecker, was about to launch a book on the disaster, which has a lot of detail about what happened. I am in the process of ordering it right now. It turns out, my great, great uncle John Brydson, Mesach Phillips and Steward Herbert Hartnell were all travelling to Pender Island to help build a Brick Factory. I did some more research and found that a brick factory called Coast Shale Brick Company opened up in 1912, so I'm assuming that this may be where the men were headed. I've seen recent pictures of the beach there and there are still red bricks littering the area. They call the bay there, Bricky Bay:-) We never knew what John Brydson was doing over on Vancouver Island, so this is all very interesting for us to finally know after all this time.

We also visited Iroquois Park in Sidney, which has the actual propeller from the Iroquois there with a small plaque.
