I'm note sure of my facts, but here is a possible connection between Tahker and Mehlman.
My grandfather, Samuel Mailman, emmigrated to the US around 1914. He told us he hailed from Kamanetz Padolsk. The spelling of his last name may have been altered upon entering the US, although he always insisted that it was spelled MAILMAN. However, the only surname spelling that I have found similar to MAILMAN with any relationship to Kamenetz Padolsk is Mehlman, so I assume it was changed at Ellis. His Mother's Maden name was Chana Tashker. She was married to Dov Behr Mehlman (Mailman). Sam settled in Elizabeth, NJ., married Rose Black, and had 4 children, Seymour, Barbara, Arnold (my father), and Carol. I know that Sam had siblings that remained in Russia and his mother, Chana Tashker, had 7 siblings as well. Sam had a brother who came to the United States, but soon after, returned to the old country. Does any of this info strike a chord?
