Dear Sheldon, Mamornitza and Tsuren' are separate villages and have always been. As a smaller village Mamornitza is subordinated to the administration of Tsuren' so if you are going to correspond with local authorities you should write to the administrative head of Tsuren'. The link provided in the previous post shows entries with similar last names in Chernivtsi, a search in this database for Tsureni reveals 10 person, the oldest among them Elena the daughter of Gheorge born in 1912 and no one in Mamornita. But any search in these databases is of little practical use when expecting to meet and get in touch with your relatives, if there are any phone numbers most of them are outdated, this website and another similar databases have been criticized on Ukrainian genealogical forums and there are good reasons for this. They are extremely incomplete, there might be hundreds of people with a given family name living in a village and no one to be displayed in the search results, there are a lot of people who passed away long ago but are still listed as living in some villages, there were cases of people who died in 1996 to be still on the lists. In most of the cases these websites are based on partial and poorly compiled, unapdated, abandoned databases from the middle of 1990-s that were of no good for any official use. Even the most updated official Ukrainian databases used during elections are extremely incomplete and erroneous to draw a lot of criticism. So to find what the real situation is you either will have to contact the administrative head of Tsuren' but if doing this find someone to translate your letter in Romanian, Ukrainian or Russian. But if you get no response there could be several reasons for this, personal data in Ukraine is protected and the mayor might just avoid to take any responsibility. When writing the letter inquire information about people who remained in the village in 1908, the first degree relatives of your ancestor, they might have some information in the records about these in the village archives. In 1950-s and 1970-s these were at the age of retirement so there definitely must be some information on them in their archives. But there is no information of any kind in their records about your ancestor who went to Canada. The family name was definitely pronounced trebiSH despite all spelling varieties, in the metrical records I bet it's spelled with a Romanian S with diacritics pronounced SH. In case you don't get any reply and they don't want to bother with your inquiry you will have to visit the place yourself or hire someone to research for your relatives in the village. If visiting the area you'll need an English translator.
This is the address of Tsuren' administrative head and the phone numbers with international codes for Ukraine. Good luck!
