I've been trying to figure out the origin and meaning of the surname Lipecki. So far as I know it is a Polish surname, but I'm unable to find any info on it in either English or Polish. The only info I can find are in Russian sources saying it's a habitation already name for someone from Lipetsk, Russia. As it stands I am able to trace my Lipecki ancestors back to one Jan Lipecki born abt 1800 in Germany (most probably meaning German occupied Poland), and I know his son later lived in Mełno and Plemięta in Kujawsko-Pomorskie. I managed to find a town called Wolna Lipecka in Northeast Poland, but on my DNA Relatives list I do not come up with any relatives from the same county (though I do have connections from the same general region), whereas I do have several Russian relatives on my DNA list (5-8 cousins), one from Lipetsk itself, and some others in the surrounding area.
Does anyone have any info on what the origin of the Lipeckis are? And if they are somehow Russian, how they might have ended up in German Poland before c. 1800?
Thanks in advance!
