Thanks, Katka. The language certainly looks more Hungarian or Polish than Czech, doesn't it. But reading it aloud, it sounds Czech. Of course, it's 300 years ago. But I did spot something very interesting: Regina's father is the rychtař of Bohunov, and Matej becomes the rychtař of the same village. For those reading who are not familiar with the term, it might be translated "village magistrate", a person who handled the minor legal matters of the village. Would a magistrate be considered a serf? It's not easy to find literature about the lives of the middle class of that era.

For the new reader, the translation of the above transcriptions is fairly easy, except for the first two words which probably translate to something like "honest youth" and "honest young woman" or virgin. So "honest youth Matej, Vaclav Friman of Sadek's son", "honest virgin Regina, Matej Pardauska the magistrate of Bohunov's daughter".

I've read some speculation about where the Faimons came from, and some theories are from as far away as Norway. Others say they sort of appear in the area around 1750 and take over leadership and write the chronicles, etc. Seems to me it was a bit earlier than 1750.
