I am looking for information on my ancestor Johann Justus Beland of Celle, who died in 1782. He was a bailiff (Raths-Gerichtsdiener) in the city. His first marriage was to Catharina Dorothea Magdalena Hurlbusch in 1752. His second wife was Sophia Margrete Helbergs, who died 1785.
Beland is an unusual family name in Germany but more common in France (and Quebec). My theory is that this family had Huguenot ancestry (I have also read that Celle had a large Huguenot community), but I have found nothing to confirm the theory yet.
Any tips or info would be appreciated.
