This may be way too late as your question was dated in 1998. My grandmother's father was Wenzel Heppler. They came to the US in 1879 when my grandmother was 4 years old. The settled first in Wisconsin for 1 year and in the spring of 1881 they went to the Dakota Territory and homesteaded land 8 miles west of Redfield, SD. They built a sod house which they lived in for 1 year when they built a stone house. In 1885 the stone house was washed away in a flood. Wenzel was a locksmith and carpenter by trade. He worked on the railroad between Huron and Pierre, SD. He and his brother Matt built the Catholic church and convent in Zell, SD (Originally named Maria Zell.) There are also Ecker and Albrecht people who lived in that area as I remember my parents speaking of them but I have no geneology information on them. There is a history of Zell, SD written by my aunt on my father's side which may be available in the library in Redfield, SD which will have more information on the Albrecht and Ecker folks.
