Hello and thank you for your reply.

My G Grandfather was Peter Christian Johannsen, the family were in the poor house in 1845, and Peter was 5 yrs of age at the time. His father Johann Peter was a blacksmith, I think it was a very tough time for a lot of people.

The 3 children being left behind is the mystery that I’m looking into. That Johann and Hans (the boys) show up as accused of immigration (Rootdigger site migration database) which means they couldn’t be found and they had not be granted immigration permission. Arthalina (daughter) I have no idea about except her birth certificate.

The lad that committed suicide over here I have no information on and do not know of the reason for his actions. I cannot identify any illness or bipolar disorders in the Johannsens in New Zealand; in fact, quite the contrary they are quick humoured, very generous and well balanced people. Although your theory may have some merit.

Peter Christian Hansen DOB: 1780 married Anna Catharina ? DOB: 1780 had a daughter Anna Lena Hansen DOB: 1807.

She Married Johann Peter Johannsen DOB: 1805 and they had Peter Christian Johannsen my G Grandfather, he and Anna Christina left their 3 kids when the migrated to New Zealand. Whether they were going to send for them or what is my dilemma.

The Catharina Johannsens in our tree are DOB: 1816 & 1837.

Thank you for taking the time to respond to my query.

Kind regards Steve
