"... Arthur William Scherr (Scheer). His father's name was Nicholas Scheer (Scherr). They were from Milwaukee. I am trying to trace Nicolas back to Germany, and determine his relationship to Reinhard von Scheer of WWI fame ... My grandfather told us that Vice Admiral Reinhard von Scheer was his grand uncle ... born in Obernkirchen 30 September 1863 and died in Marktredwitz 26 November 1928. Any help with this search would be very much appreciated."

It's possible that Milwaukee's German language papers could have an obit. of some sort in their regional German news columns. You'd have to browse the microfilms of these papers as they're not online. (Maybe local librarians or counter staff can do this for you.)

For local news, I've indexed about 55 Scheer and 35 Scherr entries or references in "Milwaukee's German Newspapers; an index of death notices and related items" (1844-1950). Some names connected with Scherr/Scheer include Kramke Groschadl Schweda Benicke Canitz Equitz Ewert Hoppe Bachmann Kaliebe Stoll Brees Runge Schultz Wellhausen.
