Saw your posting and you seem familiar with Herringhausen. My name is Rikard Hill. I presently live in the St. Charles, Missouri area of the USA, but grew up in Dearborn County, Indiana, USA. My HILLE family also emigrated from Herringhausen, Kingdom of Hanover. The family belonged to the parish at Arenshorst. While I know much about them, there is one mystery the family has been unable to resolve - Did the immediate family have one or two daughters?
Father: Gerhard Heinrich Willhelm HILLE, b. Nov 1783 in Arenshorst/Bomte Germany; d. 4 Dec 1838 in Hildesheim (or Feldcamp), Kingdom of Hanover in an insane asylum
Mother: Charlotte Sophia WIEHE; b. about 1801 in the Kingdom of Hanover; d. after 1870 in Dearborn County, Indiana, USA
1. Anna Marie Engel HILLE; b. 22 Jan 1823, Ahrenhorst, Witlage, Hanover
2. Louisa HILLE; b. 22 Jan 1824, Arenhorst, Kingdom of Hanover; d. 27 Dec 1903 in Dearborn County, Indiana, USA
3. Johann Heinrich HILLE; b. 27 Feb 1827, Herringhausen, Arenshorst; d. 13 Dec 1914 in Dearborn County, Indiana, USA
4. Johann Christophel Heinrich HILLE; b. 4 Mar 1830 in Herringhausen, Hannover, Germany; d. 25 Feb 1891 in Weidburg, Dearborn County, Indiana, USA
The father died before the remainder of the family, minus Anna Marie Engel, emigrated to the USA after 31 August 1844. We have never been able to find a record of whether Anna was married or engaged when the family left Herringhausen and stayed behind (she would have been about 21), or had died as a child. Also given their births on the same date, but supposedly one year apart, it is possible that Anna and Louisa are the same person?!?
After the family emigrated, initially to to New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, they anglicized all the family names so my ancestor became John C. HILL.
Do you have access to the Arenshorst parish archives? If so, I have a favor to ask you. Would you look to see if there is a wedding or death certificate for Anna Marie Engel HILLE?
Thank you very much!
