HAMILTON TOWNSHIP -- Gertrude Anna Katz, 80, of the Bromley section of Hamilton Township, passed away peacefully Friday at the Compassionate Care Hospice Facility, Trenton after a lengthy illness.
Born in Vienna, Austria, Mrs. Katz attended college in Austria and became a naturalized citizen of the United States in 1951. She was formerly employed as a waitress by Peter Pan Diner in Hamilton and was an accomplished tailor in Austria. She enjoyed baking cookies and crocheting.
She was a former parishioner of both St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church, Hamilton and more recently Saints Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church, South Trenton.
In 1947 she married Sgt. 1st Class Gerald K. Katz in Vienna and moved to the United States in 1948. They were happily married for 50 years. Mr. Katz passed away in 1996.
Mrs. Katz was a former member of the Ladies of the Elks Trenton 105.
She was predeceased by her husband Gerald K. Katz, her dear parents, Anthony Smolik and Maria Bohacek and also by four brothers and two sisters. She is survived by her caring and very special friends with whom she resided, Kathy and Richard Ireland, Jeffrey Ireland and Jason Ireland, all of Hamilton, and a nephew in Vienna, Austria.
Funeral services were held privately Wednesday.
Burial was held at the Greenwood Cemetery in Hamilton next to her beloved husband.
All arrangements were entrusted to the care of the Chiacchio Southview Funeral Home, 990 S. Broad St., South Trenton.
