Yes, many thanks! I've already done all that research, and am familiar with both the distribution of the surname as well as the history and geography of Switzerland and Austria, I've traveled throughout that region. There are Schatz families documented in many towns in both the Rhine and Inn Valleys dating to the 1300s, the earliest documented Schatz uncovered thus far in western Tirol was originally from Mels, Switzerland. Vital statistics were not usually kept that early, so it's not possible to prove family connections, which is where DNA testing would come in very handy.
