Searching for information on Amelia Heitman (b: 1866) in St. Croix

I'm assisting my husband with his genealogical search regarding his ancestor, Amelia Heitman, who was born in 1866 in St. Croix.

We believe that she arrived in the U.S. in 1880 at the age of 14 and married Joshua W. Selby a black man in 1890. We believe Amelia Heitman was a European woman of Dutch ancestry and not a person of color. However, we have not completely ruled out that she was a very light-skinned, mulatto woman. I was able to locate a list of 1767 St. Croix Plantation Owners in St. Croix and came across a plantation owner with the surname Heitmann and have not ruled out the possibility that there may be a connection between this Heitman and the Heitman that I'm searching for.

I'm curious to find out how I can locate records documenting Amelia's arrival in the U.S. from St. Croix back in 1880. What would have been her port of arrival back in 1880 from the St. Croix to the Washington, D.C. area? Also, are their any particular resources, historical archives and/or genealogical societies that anyone has success with in researching Caribbean ancestors located in St. Croix? If so, I'd appreciate the information.

Any assistance anyone can provide in helping me to locate records documenting Amelia's arrival and/or information about Amelia (or, her possible ancestors) in St. Croix would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
