I am new to this forum (just found it through Altavista).

Our family is Jewish, and we live in Israel. The origin of the name Behagen in eastern-european jewish families may be of interest to you: in the 18th century, jewish people in German territories were forced by the government to change their original Jewish names to German names. In order to retain some connection to their ancient names, some families "translated" their names to German, and some chose names that had similar sound to the original name. My ancestors at that time were living in a german-ruled part of Poland. Their original name was "Ben-Hagaon" (meaning "son of the scholar" in Hebrew). The name Behagen was chosen because of it's resemblence to the original name.
Before World War II there were about 150 Behagen family members in Poland. All of them, except my father, were murdered by the Nazis in the Holocaust.
As far as I know, we are now the only jewish family in the world with that name, but I would be glad to learn that we have relatives.
