Orkney in the Carta Marina and other ancient maps

I recently came across the Carta Marina, an ancient map drawn in 1527 and published in 1539, which shows the Orkney Islands. Has anyone been able to equate the islands drawn on that map with actual places in Orkney? It seems to me that the cartographer has visited Orkney, as he accurately portrayed the sea gloup in Deerness, and the coast line of Deerness, Hoy and S Walls are all recognisable. I am particularly interested as I am trying to trace the earliest reference to Snelsetter, or the house of Walls, which I think is portrayed on the Carta Marina and other ancient maps.
